FILTHY REHAB MIXTAPE & INTERVIEW

Welcome to the second installment of Eisandnose Exclusives. This time around we bring you bassweight heavyweights Filthy Rehab. Anyone who’s rolled over to Beatport within the last year or so will have clocked that their tracks are usually hanging around the top 100, and after bringing the noise after only two years in the game, they are indeed a slateful of rarecut blue brash talent. After squashing a massive 50 releases into a mere 7 months, the West Midland duo are on a mission to destroy dancefloors across the globe. Set’s and productions which leave the ‘genre rulebook’ behind, they roll out the big guns, and leave a dent when their done. We caught up with Karl to find out whether he’s a fan of Marmite or not, and what we should keep an eye out for in the coming months. Be sure to follow up the rather epic mixtape they’ve boshed out for us, it’s packed with Filthy Rehab exclusives and a taste of what’s to come this year. Tracklist after the drop.

So who is Filthy Rehab and what do you do? When did you guys come about?

Well there’s Karl & Leigh and we try and feed the hunger of all dirt lovers around the world! Haha. We started producing just under 2 years ago. We never had anything to do with music before that, so we had to learn everythin from scratch…and fast!!

What influences you when your producing, and where does your inspiration come from?

There are so many good producers out there, and we both come from different musical backgrounds. I (Karl) was into Garage and Hip Hop sort of stuff, and Leigh was more Hard House, so we try and take bits from all types of music that we like. Try to keep people guessing all the time and not to stick to any ‘rules’

How do you both go about writing a track? is it a fairly individual affair, or more of a collaboration?

A bit of both really. We will each have a mess with loops in the week and then just work on everything when we get in the studio. We think it keeps things fresh.

Everybody has access to production tools these days. Do you think this is a negative or a positive thing?

It can be hard to get into any line of work that requires imagination and obsession all the time, but its good that people from any background can learn somthing that they can be proud of. You dont have to be a sound engineer or have been in the buisness for 10 years. with sites like Facebook and Soundcloud anybody can have a go and just see if they have the love for it all.

Top Filthy Rehab tip for aspiring producers?

Hmmm… We would say try and do your own thing from day 1. If you start off doing what you like the sound of, then you will build your fan base on this and not worry about loosing fans if you decide to take your music in a different direction. Don’t be afraid to sound different . ✓

How do you think your sounds progressed since you started making music together? And what’s ‘Ecstatic House’?

We have come a long way since we started. We literally had no idea what we where doing!! We’ve been learning as we go really, it makes things more comfortable with how we work now, and helped us find our our ‘groove. ‘Ecstatic house’ is what we like to think of as music that you can just go mental to. Every club go’er has been at a point in the night where they just wanna jump round like a loony, so thats where we like to think our tracks would fit within the night.

Are there any artists that you both aspire to, or anyone you check up on regularly?

We have allways been fans of people like, Will Bailey, Calvertron, Mightyfools etc… So if we are ever mentioned in the same breath as producers like that then we will be happy. We follow a lot of producers all the time, its always good to see how people are getting on.

How was 2010, and what’s in store for 2011? Any big plans, releases or collabs we should look out for?

2010 was our starting point really. We wanted to just get stuck in and get out there. so it was very busy but proved to be a really good year!! 2011 looks to be even busier which is great. We have an EP on Simma records coming very soon, and some hot collabs on the way with some top class artists, so we will be getting stuck in to them soon.

What’s in the Exclusive Eisandnose Mixtape that you’ve been so kind to put together for us?

Its basically a half hour mix of all our new stuff thats coming out over next couple of months. The 1st track, we have added our own little mess about thats not going to be available unfortunately ☺

Marmite, yes or no?

errrr… hell no!!! Haha.
