Aptly entitled Creep EP, rave-fave Hostage steps aside from his vicious dancefloor attire and into something a little more sexy. Full, rounded bass pumps against delicate washes of percussion, lively vocals, amen break and signature Hostage party. Whether it’s laxxed up bar moods, or sweaty cabin rave, it’s fair to say, le Scott smashes it every time.

The moderate tempo realm of House, Techno and that expanse of ambiguous ’Bass Music’ inbetween is an area that rarely interests me. However, Hackman & Tessela’s latest tip on Amsterdam-based label Audio Culture is the latest to catch my ear.

The title track delves straight into the domain of rolling bass lines and syncopated percussion. At its heart this is heavy roller, and once dropped the oscillating bass drone and intricate, mechanical percussion barely lets ups. ‘Feel Like Loving Me’ injects a little funkiness into the proceedings, and is easily my favourite. The groove is spiced up with some off-beat hits to make this one step and stronger sense evolution throughout makes this the best track on the EP. Once the glorious bass has sunk in, funky chords and a vocal that sores effortlessly above the mix polishes this one off. Also on the EP is Presk’s remis of the latter track, slowing it down and giving the track a darker edge.
