Ottawa-based happy chap DJ trio A Tribe Called Red have made their recent mix for Diplo’s BBC Radio 1Xtra show ‘Diplo and Friends‘ available to stream via Soundcloud. It comes ahead of their UK tour which begins this November.
Earlier this year, the group released their second album ‘Nation II Nation‘ which follows on from the incredible success of their 2012 self-titled debut – both of which were nominated for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize in their native Canada. In this amazing mix for Diplo’s radio show, the group continue their famous fusion of contemporary dance styles – including dubstep, trap and hiphop – with samples of native vocal chants and drumming. This combination of styles comes loaded with a powerful political and personal message. In continual support for the Idle No More civil rights movement, the group of aboriginal DJs create their music to promote the fight for native people’s rights across North America which has seen them set up the successful monthly Electric Powwow party in their hometown, which showcases native talent and culture to consistently sold-out crowds.
